Rejected petition Domestic Abusers should be held accountable for emotional abuse.

Everyone’s cases should be assessed individually. There should be laws to hold domestic abusers accountable for all sides of abuse and they shouldn’t be able to find loop holes within the law.

Emotional abuse has a much longer lasting effect however there are no punishments in place. This means victims can struggle with mental health issues all their life whilst knowing the abuser is living it’s life consequence free.

The Domestic Abuse Act defines domestic abuse as any of the following:

- physical or sexual abuse
- violent or threatening behaviour
- controlling or coercive behaviour
- economic abuse
- psychological, emotional or other abuse

Decisions about individual cases involving domestic abuse are a matter for the police, Crown Prosecution Service and the courts.
