Rejected petition UK should recognise EASA drone classifications until its own come in to effect

Two years after leaving the EU the UK has yet to implement a replacement for the EASA drone classification scheme.

The CAA has announced a further 3-year extension to the transitional period. Without a classification scheme, UK drone owners are in an unreasonable and confusing legislative limbo.

More details

PWC calculate that the UK drone industry could be worth £42bn by 2030 (https://tinyurl.com/2n75by3c).

The restrictive aspects of EASA drone rules require pilots to pass a test and pay an annual registration fee. Minimum distances for most drones have tripled to 150m from structures.

These were balanced by a classification scheme which promoted the development and use of safer technologies.

We continue to adhere to the former. We must also recognise the latter or risk this growing market.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you are concerned about UK arrangements for classification of drones, but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

It's not clear if you just want the Government to continue to recognise European Union (EU) class marks on drones, or make other changes to the transition and legacy provisions for drones operating in the open category.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you would like the Government or Parliament to do.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
