This petition was submitted during the 2019-2024 parliament

Rejected petition Unused but structurally sound buildings could be used to help home the homeless.

As our town and city centres are losing big shops like Debenhams we could reuse these buildings, while they are unoccupied, as homeless shelters giving both a place for the homeless and a way of maintaining the life of the town/city centres.

More details

The buildings themselves could be leased at a discount rate by the government if rents would be a problem and also the people in these makeshift shelters could help maintain the buildings to make the high streets a more appealing place to go for other people looking to shop.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for the issue you raise. This would be a decision for building owners and landlords, rather than the UK Government to enforce rentals or discounts.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
