Rejected petition Remove the requirement to remember quotes at GCSE English due to the Covid 19
Remove the requirement to memorise quotes for GCSE English Literature for 2023 exams due to continued impact from the Covid 19 Pandemic.
More details
The Covid-19 Pandemic continues to bring disruption and disturbance to teaching time and learning time for pupils up and down the country. The requirement to memorise quotations for English Literature qualifications reduces contradicts the purpose of a GCSE english exam, by making the exam a memory test, rather than a focus on detailed analysis of texts. As the equations have been given for Maths and Physics, additional assistance should be given for English to ensure parity between subjects.
