Rejected petition Remove experience restrictions on entry-level jobs

Make new legalizations to safeguard graduates and potential employees with little or no previous employment experience when applying for entry-level positions. To protect those, the government must establish a legal framework that businesses can follow when applying for jobs.

More details

Currently employers are able to exploit an apparent loophole in the equality act 2010 advertising entry-level jobs requiring experience up to 3 years.
We believe action must be taken to discourage employers from saying experience is desirable as a covering for age discrimination.
We are calling for the government to remove experience requirements for entry-level jobs. Candidates should be considered for entry-level positions upon education and personal skills.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The qualifications and experience employers require for particular jobs is a matter for individual employers, not the Government or House of Commons.

Indirect discrimination that disadvantages people with a protected characteristic is already illegal unless an organisation or employer is able to show that there is a good reason for the policy: https://www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/advice-and-guidance/what-direct-and-indirect-discrimination

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
