In the light of on-going controversy we should apply the existing Benefits Rules to MP's expenses.
A system already exists to assessing and pay FAIR rates to people in need of funds from the Public Purse to provide a decent home and essential support, without profiting from Public Funds. Rules are set by our elected representatives to be fair and reasonable.
Housing: MPs claim the local rate for rent or interest-only on an existing mortgage, in either Constituency or London
Travel: once weekly between Constituency and Westminster paid at the rates for Jobseekers to attend interviews
Staff and Assistants MP to receive a defined sum to spend ONLY on paying for assistance, rates to be as allowed for Disabled and Elderly Constituents to fund Essential Care
Amounts to be paid as per existing Asset regulations
One residence to be disregarded in either Constituency or London
MP salary to be disregarded
All other income and assets to be included in the assessment.
