In the light of recent events the government should accept demands for further reform of MPs' remuneration. The ultimate aim should be to replace expenses with a fair salary to cover living and travelling costs, as well as (limited) clerical support. In the meantime, measures should be taken to make the decisions of IPSA binding and prevent any amendment by ministers and/or MPs.
