Take immediate action to discourage use of diesel powered vehicles in order to reduce avoidable cases of cancer, heart disease, asthma and as many as 13,000 premature deaths a year caused by vehicle emissions. Increase fuel duty on diesel by 5 pence a litre. Reduce fuel duty on petrol by 5 pence a litre. Calculate road tax and company car tax rates on levels of harmful emissions, instead of CO2. Introduce £500 showroom tax on all diesel vehicles.
