Closed petition Require the Lords Appointments to Commission to publish reports about nominees
Closed on
When a person is nominated for appointment to the House of Lords, the House of Lords Appointments Commission should be required to publish a report describing the nominee's background, career, expertise and achievements, and explaining how the appointment will contribute to the work of Parliament.
There has been considerable public controversy surrounding some recent nominations to the House of Lords, which we believe has undermined trust in government.
A published report summarising a nominee's career, expertise and achievements, and the way he or she will contribute to the work of the House, would help members of the public understand why an appointment to the House of Lords is justified, and we believe would improve trust in the honours system.
