Petition Stop Smoking Outside of School / Nursery Settings
More details
We need to stop parents/carers etc from smoking outside of children's settings.
Secondhand smoke contains more than 4,000 chemicals, many of which are irritants and toxins.
Breathing in secondhand smoke is particularly harmful for children. Children who breathe in secondhand smoke have an increased risk of:
- cot death (sudden infant death syndrome, or SIDS)
- developing asthma (smoking can also trigger asthma attacks in children who already have the condition),
- serious respiratory (breathing) conditions such as bronchitis and pneumonia
- meningitis
- more susceptible to coughs and colds
In July 2007, smoking in public places such as bars, restaurants and workplaces was made illegal to protect non-smokers from the health risks associated with passive smoking - WE MUST EXTEND THIS TO OUR SCHOOLS AND PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!
