Closed petition Reform the Gender Identity Clinics
Closed on
Gender Identity Clinics have been shown to be dangerous.
"Nearly 60% of them reported being seen within a year, with around 32% waiting
one to three years and under 10% waiting for more than three years. 58% of the
participants felt that this wait had led to their mental health or emotional
wellbeing worsening during this time" - http://www.bath.ac.uk/equalities/news/pdf/transmhstudyNov2012.pdf
The standard of care at the GICs is unacceptable. We suggest that the GIC clinics should be stripped of their inappropriate level of power over the lives of trans people. And that they should be reformed using the well tested "Informed Consent" model.
"Once seen at a Gender Identity Clinic, 46% of
the participants felt that they had experienced difficulties obtaining the treatment
or assistance that they needed."
This flawed system is endangering the lives of trans people. It needs to be changed.
