Closed petition Free forces' families from the 'bedroom tax'

Closed on

Under current arrangements, military personnel's families do not pay the 'bedroom tax' while their son or daughter is on military operations.

However, as soon as they leave Afghanistan or other theatres of conflict, families are forced to start paying again.

This means that while servicemen and servicewomen are in barracks anywhere in the UK or further afield their families are again penalised.

This means that a family with an offspring on active service might lose out by over £3,000 a year depending on how much time they spend on active duty.

Most service personnel are not highly-paid, and this policy risks hitting families hard.
