Petition Make D-Day June 6th a Bank Holiday
More details
As former members of the 1st Battalion the Staffordshire Regiment (now 3 Mercian),
Keith hodgson and i ask that the Government propose making D-Day 6th June a Bank Holiday for evermore.
Following the recent 70th anniversary of this historic day, many allied forces never returned from this battle, and with the dwindling numbers of veterans, this day would just be another day.
I quote the following from veteran Jack Pritchard (89)
"The younger generation are apt to forget what we fought for. Its not thier fault. They didnt live through what we did so they dont know. But they should be told- so that they know and never forget"
If not for the bravery of this person and the thousands that never returned, then we would not be enjoying the freedom that we take for granted this day.
In time to come generations will ask, what was D-Day,
What a way to show future generations what this day meant to so many by making it a Bank Holiday
