Petition Regulate Buy to Lets

The buy to let market in its current form has been with us now for some 20 years and during that time the number of landlords and people renting has gone through the roof.

I would like to propose the following:

the setting up of a body to oversee the buy to let market, similar to gas safe, with annual checks made on properties and the accounts and record keeping.

All buy to lets to be registered as such with lenders and insurance companies.

All buy to lets to be held as part of registered business with business rates payable.

Each property must have mains smoke alarms, as well as gas and electrical certificates.

Ban any new interest only mortgages, as these give an unfair tax efficient way for landlords to purchase properties ahead of first time buyers.

We as taxpayers subsidize this market, it is now time it was fully regulated.
