Speed bumps should be designed so that any legal road vehicle can drive straight over them at the designated speed limit without any risk of damage.

Excessively high speed bumps cause serious damage and inconvenience to many road users with small sports cars with low suspension, while doing nothing to slow down larger family cars with higher suspension.

Speed bumps should be designed so that they slow down all legal road vehicles equally.

If no such design is possible, then speed bumps should be removed and replaced with speed cameras or some other measure that does not discriminate based on vehicle type.
