Closed petition How about cutting the aid money the government allocated for charity overseas to invest in worthy projects inside UK instead?
Closed on
Apparently, former PM Gordon Former PM Gordon Brown proudly pledged Britain to the tune of £10 billion pounds for aid in Africa every year on top of some £7 billion pounds pledged for Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iraq. Now the coalition Government is pledging £8.4 billion this year, rising in subsequent years to over £11 billion by 2015.Is it not ‘charity begins at home’ at this period of government spending cuts? How about using the aid money the government allocated for charity overseas to invest in worthy projects inside UK instead? In any case, oversees aid may easily end up greatly enriching the pockets of officials, misguided and corrupt tin-pot administrations in order to serve their own corrupt, useless self-interest schemes. Also British armed forces may have to donate their helicopters and armoured vehicles costing billions of pounds eventually anyway as Afghanistan is a poor country.
