Petition Police not speaking to Media before charging an individual

More details

Following recent high profile cases of celebrities undergoing trial by media, even prior to being charged (the Cliff Richard matter being the latest), there should be a law which prevents the police or anyone else disclosing to the media (be this press, television or social media) the identity of a person under investigation or any media discussion about the individual until that individual is charged.

This is especially important in instances where the complainant(s) have the right of anonymity,

An individual under investigation should have as much right to pre-charge anonymity as the person who has made the complaint against them.
