Petition Benefits checks on protest camps

More details

Regular checks to prevent those partaking in protest camps from using benefits to fund their lifestyle.

The government should regularly check whether benefits are being claimed by occupants of protest camps and if those claimants should be using their time to actively seek work.

The burden will be on the protestor to prove they are seeking work, or benefits will be cut.

It could introduced as a pilot scheme, which if successful extends to include one-off protests where people are suspected of using benefits to fund their actions.

The taxpayer maintains a benefits system for those genuinely in need, not as a lifestyle choice.
