Petition reduction of power household hoovers

The planned EU ruling that household vacuum cleaners be reduced from September 2014 to 1600 hp and then down to 900 by 2017 is ridiculous. What is the benefit to anyone. Reducing the power will only makes homes dirtier as we won't be able to clean properly. Why did this UK Government let this legislation through?
