Rejected petition Change the British national anthem to 'I Vow to Thee, My Country.'

More details

The national anthem for Britain should be changed from 'God Save our Queen' to 'I Vow to Thee, My Country'.

Currently, our national anthem does not portray the patriotism of our united countries, and if anything, actually divides us. We should not ask for one person to be placed above anyone else in this country. United we stand, divided we fall.

An anthem that actually focuses on the country, as opposed to a monarchy that has little influence, if any, on the country, would make more sense.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The official status of the National Anthem derives from custom and use, not from Royal Proclamation or Act of Parliament. It is the tune which constitutes the authorised part of the National Anthem in the United Kingdom and not the words, and the choice of words and verses to be used on any particular occasion is one for those concerned.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
