With increasing costs it would make sense for men to be able to marry more than one wife. This would allow one wife to stay at home looking after any children while the other wife(s) can go to work. By combining the earning potential between more adults able to work the standard of living would improve for all.

The same benefits would be obtained in marriages involving one wife and a number of husbands
