At this moment in time, housing landlords are not regulated, this is massive business in the UK and needs regulation, Its ok to have hosing laws, but how is that enforcable really, with out landlord registration, there are so many slumlords in the UK that the establishment cant keep up with the disrepair issue, if land lords were made to compulsivley register with a governing body, then this would bring in better quality housing and both tenant and landlord would know they are safe from harm, either by way of renting from a landlord who doesnt care or getting a tenant who if reckless.
this is what i think should happen.
1. compulsary registration scheme for landlords
2. compulsary registration for letting agents
a tenant has to go through checks, why does a landlord not have to go through checks for reliablility, ie make sure mortgage payment are upto date etc, not a convicted criminal or devient etc
