Airlines are currently allowed to sell more tickets for a flight than there are seats on the plane. This means that you may very well arrive the airport, on time and having bought your ticket, to find you are denied boarding.

Selling a service or product you can't honour or supply is wrong. It is not allowed in other industries and should not be allowed in the airline industry.
