Rejected petition Reinstate the Council of the North
More details
We call on the government to reinstate the Council of the North.
Because of recent concerns with the centralisation of power and money in southern of England, and further devolution within the rest of the United Kingdom The north of England has been neglected and therefore the government should reinstate the Council of the North and release some central competencies to give it power of influence.
background:
The Council of the North was an administrative body set up in 1472 by King Edward IV of England, the first Yorkist monarch to hold the Crown of England, to improve government control and economic prosperity, to benefit all of Northern England.
The Council was based in Yorkshire throughout its history. It was abolished in the preamble to the English Civil War.
