On 22 October Sergeant at Arms to the Canadian Parliament, Kevin Vickers, performed an outstanding service in the defence of democracy, preventing a potentially fatal attack on that institution.

It is therefore only right that Mr Vickers's bravery and dedication to duty be recognised by his inclusion in the New Year's Honours List as a Knight of the Garter.

We therefore urge the UK Parliament to recommend this course of action to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II
