Important:

This petition was submitted during the 2010-2015 parliament

Rejected petition equal responsibilities of fathers to either be removed or acted upon in a case where the father is absent from a childs life.

More details

From 2003 a mother and father even if unmarried and are both on a birth certificate, have equal responsibilities to the child. Although if a father doesnt see his child or is not regularly involved in the childs life we cannot take them to court to provide a stable relationship between father and child.
If however a mother denies access to a father, the father is able to take the mother to court and gain access.
If the government are not going to act upon this 'equally' for mother and father then the 'equal responsibility for both parents should be removed.
