The General Medical Councils remit is to work for patients whilst (allegedly) working with doctors.
Historically it's membership was entirely of doctors to allow peer scrutiny of practice.
Times have changed and there is now a stronger emphasis on policing doctors practice.
It is now time for the funding of this body to be reviewed and for it to be paid for out of general taxation. It is not right that if the GMC take a case out against me that I pay for both prosecution as well as defence of the case.
