Hundreds of e-petitions on HM Government's website refer to local matters outside of the responsibility and powers of the central British Government which would affect less than 100, 000 people, the minimal number required to bring an e-petition to the attention of the Commons. The matters discussed in such e-petitions are the responsibility of local government.

Like HM Government's website, all local government websites should have an e-petition webpage to create e-petitions regarding purely local matters; the minimal number of signatures required for a successful e-petition should be 20% of the registered electorate of any local government authority or borough.
