Closed petition End the Council Tax Summons Scam

Councils claim "Costs" of up to £126 for issuing summonses and liability orders in magistrate’s courts against residents who have problems paying council tax, against the statutory charge of just £3 to issue a magistrates summons.

The revenue from Council Tax Summonses and Liability Orders exceeds an estimated £500 million pounds a year, and is levied against the poorest members of society. Who are further disadvantaged with these outrageous costs, which can result in attachment of earnings orders, bailiffs, deductions against benefits, repossession, eviction & homelessness.

Councils claim that these costs to pay for the expense of collection of council tax against all residents. This is just nonsense.

Costs in civil legal proceedings have to be justified with a statement that; "The costs claimed do not exceed the actual costs incurred".

These Costs are perpetuated by the councils, and supported by the magistrate’s courts. It is illegal, a fraud, and it must be stopped.
