The Home Office, specifically Home Secretary Theresa May, has stipulated that only a British Citizen can run the Met, even though this is not a legal requirement for the role. I call on the government to appoint the best person for the role, not the best British person, and that person is Bill Bratton, the man who has already cleaned up New York, Los Angeles and Boston with his proven Zero Tolerance policy.
