Petition The CUT Campaign against VAT on e-books (CAVE) -
More details
CUT - The Writers e-Publishing Community wants the UK Government to abolish VAT on e-books.

We want the UK treasury to begin the process of abolition unilaterally and then lobby the EU to do likewise.
As a nation with such a proud heritage of writing it is simply wrong that we tax reading, by placing VAT on e-books. This was recognised when VAT was introduced 42 years ago and books were zero rated, so why tax e-books, now representing nearly a quarter of all books purchased and forecast to be 50% by the end of this decade.
We must promote reading and by adding VAT to e-books we are smothering our culture under tax.
Here is an example of how unfair it is.
Version Book e-Book
Selling Price £10.00 £10.00
VAT £0.00 £2.00
after UK tax £10.00 £8.00
So we at CUT - The Writers e-Publishing Community urge you the UK Government to join us in the fight.
