Petition Allow full-time students to be eligible for Funeral Payment from the Social Fund
More details
Full-time students are not eligible for any state benefit, this includes funeral grants to help cover the costs of a burial or cremation of a loved one.
In the situation where a student is the next of kin, they are forced to find the money to cover the cost of a funeral, which can cost anything from around £2000 upwards from their student loan.
I propose that the government changes their policy and allows students to apply for a funeral grants. This means students who are next of kin and thus responsible for paying for a funeral will not to be crippled by debt.
