Closed Social Care Crisis

The social care crisis is a national emergency with hundreds of thousands of elderly frail people not receiving the support they need at home; leading directly to a critical 'bed blocking' situation in most hospitals.

As none of the main political parties has costed plans to resolve this crisis it should not be the subject of petty political point scoring. We therefore call on the Government to convene all party talks before the General Election to discuss the option, requested by the Silver Voices senior citizens organisation, of an integrated national health and care service, free at the point of delivery.

There is no logical reason why cancer treatment should be free but dementia treatment subject to high charges.
