Rejected petition Save our Flowers.
More details
We are calling for the Department for Communities and Local Government to review their irrational and excessive policy to purge our pots of flowers from community areas in Greenwich Borough, and nationally; due to the fear that flowers present a fire hazard.
We believe that flowers are not a substantial threat to the health and safety of residents to warrant the: mandatory removal and/or destruction of flowers, financial loss caused to residents, stress caused to residents (including subsequent impact on their health), and finally detriment to our natural habitat.
Minimally, if the Department for Communities and Local Government will not abandon this disproportionate measure, and have us fear the so called threat of burning bushes, we believe that a 'more sensible' case by case approach should be adopted as it has been in 2012 by Bristol City Council; who stated that the policy was "far too inflexible and fails to take account of the importance of a homely environment.
