I feel that people who are convicted of knife or similar crimes, especially murder should not be sent to prison.

If these people want go around acting 'tough', carrying weapons I suggest that they be made to serve time on the front line in the armed forces instead of a custodial sentence.
The army will get more recruits at no expense to the taxpayer, these people can carry weapons, and show us all just how 'courageous' they really are.
I'm sure once having witnessed the true horrors of violence they will soon change their tune.
