Petition Promote critical thinking in schools as an enactment of British values of democratic debate.
More details
Promote critical thinking in schools as an enactment of British values of democratic debate, rather than artificially determining those values and demanding adherence to them:
- Revise the emphasis in anti-radicalisation strategies to prioritise meaningful engagement in schools with moral philosophy, active citizenship and critical thinking.
- Task and empower the teaching profession to include 'critical' and 'storytelling/philosophical' pedagogies alongside the existing dominant 'control' pedagogy.
- Reclassify Citizenship Studies GCSE as a core eBacc humanities subject alongside history and geography, and enable more schools to teach active citizenship rather than a patina of political compliance.
- Provide funding for third sector citizenship charities to develop more projects such as the mock trials, but within the political arena, and that address core cultural debates.
