Rejected petition Drug Driving zero approch is wrong

More details

Government did not follow the recommendations of expert panel on drug driving advice and the results of the following consultation, which a majority indicated they did not support the governments preferred option on drug driving that being; a zero tolerance level approach to all illegal drugs found in the blood of motorists rather that a level which did not significantly impair a motorists driving.

In particular it was wrong of government to label 28 of the 94 respondents as misunderstanding the blood analysis in relation to THC and then to disregard them from the final calculation which then was reported to be a majority in favour of the government’s approach. The information contained in the expert panel report indicates their concerns are valid.

It is wrong to prosecute motorists on the basis of trace levels and the recommendations of the expert panel should be implemented.
