Every male citizen who is pronounced fit by the medical authorities should be obliged to complete military service unless he opts, within the prescribed time limit, to perform community service as an alternative. Basic military service should lasts for six months, plus a further two months (60 days) of military exercises which must be completed in blocks of 5-10 days at two-year intervals. If the individual concerned so prefers, in most engagements the entire eight-month service liability may be completed in one continuous spell.
