Closed petition The Police Service should have the legal right to operationally determine when to deploy and use tear gas, water cannon and baton rounds

Closed on

The Police Service should have the legal right to operationally determine when to deploy and use tear gas, water cannon and baton rounds in order to control and quell large scale rioting and looting by civilians. The Police Service should not be expected to seek the approval of authorities before deployment and should do so in order to prevent the escalation or continuation of criminal behaviour with the aim of minimizing loss of life, injury to innocent bystanders and property damage. The Police Service should be held accountable for the use of these powers.
