The reintroduction of National Service will benefit not only young people apparently in need of order, discipline , purpose, skills and respect in their lives but will also boost the defence establishment at a time of current and forseeable need. For some of these young people prison may be the default position but it is unlikely to be anywhere near as beneficial to either the young people or society at large, as a period of National Service
