At times of serious incident the police should be allowed to call on volunteers who work in the private security sector to assist and provide structured backup to current officers and specials.

This initiative would be controlled and governed by the home office and help to prevent otherwise law abiding citizens from taking vigilante actions, and possibly breaching the law themselves.
