Rejected petition Abolish The Chatham House Rule

Publicly unaccountable NGOs, including think-tanks and private corporations within Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs) are influencing political policy off record under the protection of the 'Chatham House Rule'. This they do without having been elected by the public! It is unconstitutional.

This petition was rejected

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s about something that the UK Government or Parliament is not directly responsible for.

The Chatham House Rule is not specifically the responsibility of the Government or Parliament. We therefore cannot accept a petition asking the Government or Parliament to abolish the rule.

It seems from your petition that you would like to see increased transparency in local government decision-making. You could start a petition asking for changes to legislation to make this happen.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
