Why should the UK go through austerity times and cut backs when millions of pounds are being given away to other countries?

We have read of food banks, kids going to school hungry, people who feed their kids and go hungry themselves, old people who can't afford to eat and heat, police, and armed forces along with border agency staff reduction at a time we need more. Hospitals where the staff can't cope and work excessive hours along with paramedics.
