Petition Commission a public inquiry into HSBC/HFC consumer charges
Between the years 2003 and 2010 HSBC and its subsidiary HFC Bank were adding charges to customer accounts in default. This conduct was ruled against by the Office of Fair Trading and by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, but no compensation has been paid.
More details
The matter has not been investigated by the FCA, the MoJ and others. There must be a full public inquiry and redress for the consumers affected.
Martin Wheatley of the FCA admitted to the Treasury Select Committee that the FCA copied and pasted text received from HSBC in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. He has also stated that the FCA will not be taking further action in the matter, although the FCA has powers to do so.
