Closed petition Make it illegal for the Media to mention Ethnicity or Religion for crimes
Closed on
The media these days likes to paint a whole Ethnicity or Religion with the same brush linking an individuals crime by mentioning their Ethnicity (eg. Pakistani, Arab etc) or the most popular one their Religion, particularly 'Islam' or 'Muslim' mainly, which has increased hate crimes in the UK.
What we want the government to do, is to pass a bill/law and to make it illegal to mention an individuals Ethnicity or Religion in the Media and Newspapers when mentioning crimes that are committed by an individual or a group of people.
Over the past few years this type of scare mongering, discrimination and labeling tactics used by the media has had a direct effect and impact on increased hate crimes against people from certain Ethnicity background and Religion in the UK and Internationally.
