Another pay rise for MPs despite freezing/ cutting pay in the public sector for years. They are now wanting to reduce a junior doctors salary by 30%

Their pay should be lowered to that of a junior doctor- 22000 for 56 hours a week

There are currently 650 MPs. This reduction in their pay would have £33,800,000 a year. This equates to 1536 more junior doctors/ nurses/ paramedics

The Government and Parliament don’t have the power to set MPs’ pay. That power was given by Parliament to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) in 2010, so that after 2012 MPs no longer had control over their own pay. IPSA conducted a public consultation after 2012 and decided what the salaries of MPs should be after the election.
