Closed petition Scrap the 2 to 5 year limit on council house residency.
Closed on
The government has just passed a measure to prevent council tenants living in one house for longer than 5 years after which they're able to be kicked out by local authorities in order to supposedly help "Social Mobility". Housing is more than just accommodation or a place to live.
It will lead to the breakup of communities, friendships and relationships people form while living in one place; It will lead to children that swap schools regularly or else travel ages to get to their school if they choose to stay on. It will lead to people having to fight a battle every 2 to 5 years to stay in their own home.
Above all, it's counterproductive to it's own aim, it's supposed to help people get better jobs why does it deprive them of their own home as a reward for doing so?
