Petition Change the law against the spacing of Vehicle Registration Plates.

I don't understand why the spacing of a Registration Plate should be regulated. ANPR Cameras used by police and other authorities pick up an 'illegally' spaced plate so why is there an issue with it?

I understand the font and size of a plate being illegal but not spacing and feel the law against it could be changed. For reference, instead of a new style plate saying: AB00 ABC why can't it be
A B00 ABC or any other way as long as the font and size are legal.
