Closed petition Require government bodies to allow use of gender-neutral honorifics e.g. "Mx"
Closed on
When interacting with the government you often have to provide a title from a preset list of options. Many people prefer to use no title, or a gender-neutral title: government bodies should offer gender-neutral options e.g. "Mx", as well as the option to use no title at all.
Preset lists of titles often include very rare titles (not many people are professors or Wing Commanders!) but offer no gender-neutral option for people who aren't doctors, don't have doctorates, or aren't a member of the clergy or military. Many organisations now offer the gender-neutral title "Mx" as one of their pre-set options, including e.g. the NHS and the Co-Op. All government bodies should offer the gender-neutral non-specialist titles (e.g. Mx) or no title as a matter of policy.
