Closed petition Give survivors of domestic abuse anonymous registration on Electoral Register.

Closed on

For survivors of domestic abuse who have been to refuge, continued anonymity can be a matter of life and death.

The Government must change the guidance so that people who are leaving refuge are automatically offered anonymous inclusion on the Electoral Register.

Current guidance asks for court documents or a letter of attestation which can only be provided by:
• a police officer of or above the rank of superintendant
• the Director General of the Security Service (MI5) or the Serious Organised Crime Agency
• a director of adult social services or children’s services in England
These people are difficult for any member of the public to contact, meaning many survivors do not register at all.
